One side of the box shows the two-step process for cracking nuts.- Hold "Wise Cracker" with narrow end in the palm of your hand, drop nut down between rods.
- Twist opposite ends until rods contact nut. Then give a quick, sharp twist! Remove the cracked nut. The meat remains in one piece.
The box gives a recipe for Fresh Pecan Pie. The back says, "'Wise Cracker' requires less effort than conventional nutcrackers. It allows you to shell a large quantity of nuts quickly, safely, and with less fatigue!" Features:- Made of solid hardwood with urethane retainers

The nut cracker seems new. The box has slight dents, light soiling, and some fly speck stains.

Vintage SUNNIE MISS TOY TOASTER Bright Tin Litho Works! - eBay (item 310024641832 end time Feb-25-08 18:14:44 PST) This vintage tin litho toy toaster says, "Sunnie Miss Toaster, 4358177 The Ohio Art Company, Bryan, Ohio 43506 Made in U.S.A." There's a little logo showing a girl labeled "Sunnie Miss." The yellow and green design features a graphic of three oranges with leaves and a faux control knob marked Lite and Dark with numbers. The same design is on both front and back.
The toaster is made of tin with a green plastic base. The silver finish is gone from the top and sides piece except for in the groove along the edge. The lever locks down and pops back up when you wiggle it sideways. There is no heating element, just pretend toasting.
The graphics are bright. There's a dent in one side and minor marks on the other side. The tin between the slots is bent down a bit and the silvery finish is off that part. Inside there's a spot of rust and one of the toast trays is bent down. Seems to work fine anyway. Great toy kitchen item!

Vintage PHILCO TRANSITONE Table Model 51-530 For Parts! - eBay (item 310024637719 end time Feb-25-08 17:57:50 PST) This Philco Transitone table-top radio is Model 51-530 in a cream-colored plastic case. It isn't fully functional. Several tubes light up and it hums, and the volume adjusts, but it seems like the tuning mechanism doesn't select stations. If you look at the back, the wires there look like they've been messed with. The radio is AM only.
The back is gone. The label on the bottom says, "Philco Model 51-530, Code 121, 115 Volts A.C. or D.C. 20 Watts. It shows a diagram of the five tubes and where they go. The tubes are: The bottom of that label says, "TP0-547, I.F.=455 KC., PART No. 78-0019. Should your PHILCO ever require service attention, call a member of 'Philco Service.' Guaranteed work, genuine Philco tubes and parts, standard prices. Printed in U.S.A." Numbers stamped on the workings in the back are "0212277003" and "GS 75036."
The case could use a better cleaning and has some scratches, the back is gone and when you plug it in, it hums but you can't get a station tuned in.

1989 8-Pg KING FEATURES BROCHURE Comics, Personalities! - eBay (item 310023326245 end time Feb-20-08 20:07:46 PST) This vintage brochure is eight pages advertising every TV personality, TV show, and comic King Features distributed in 1989. It came to us in the mail back then, but we don't remember how or why.
At that time Beetle Bailey was in 1800 papers, Blondie was in 2000, and the Wizard of Id celebrated 25 years and was in 1100 papers. Other pages list columns, puzzles, games and so on.
The stiff, glossy pages are about 8 by 11 inches, colorful and lively with comic characters cavorting everywhere and interacting with each other amid the lists. Fun to see.
It's only 18 years old, yet there have been so many changes in that time. Alex Kotzky and other have died, artists have changed, strips have ended.

Old 1873 GERMAN PRIMER Standard Series No 1 HC Textbook - eBay (item 310023299810 end time Feb-20-08 19:00:18 PST) This vintage hardcover German textbook is very old with a forward (forwort) dated 1873. The German Primer Standard German Series No. 1 by D.H. Lueken was published by Geo. Brumder, Chicago, Ill., and Milwaukee, Wis.
I think it's fascinating to see the letters in German, printed in heavy black fancy font called German black letter. The handwriting lessons teach readers to make letters stick straight unlike American English penmanship that wants curved letters.
It starts out teaching letters and ends up with whole pages of script to read and copy. The next pages look like quizzes. The last page is sheet music.
The little hardcover book shows much wear. Many, many pages had pencil scribbles we've erased. The hinges are loose, one page is loose and rather ragged, and the covers have so much wear the corners are rounded off. It's surprising the pages are still generally strong instead of brittle.

Vintage CHARLIE BROWN DICTIONARY Big Colorful 1973 HC! - eBay (item 310023248381 end time Feb-20-08 17:04:42 PST) This vintage hardcover book The Charlie Brown Dictionary by Charles M. Schulz has over 580 pictures in full color, 2400 words defined, based on The Rainbow Dictionary by Wendell W. Wright, Dean of the School of Education, Indiana University. This is the first printing, 1973. The Rainbow Dictionary it's based on is a classic from 1947.
It's charming with the Peanuts gang doing things that illustrate words, and the text helps the reader understand the meaning of the word in several ways.
For instance: "above Linus is standing above Lucy. Linus is standing over Lucy. He is higher that she is." The illustration shows Linus standing on the back of the chair (much like a vulture) where Lucy is reading a book.
It's a big and heavy hardcover book at 11 3/8 inches by 8 3/8 inches by 1 1/4 inches with 400 colorful pages.

Girls Sz 11 BARBIE ROCK STAR COWBOY BOOTS Pink Floral! - eBay (item 310022943609 end time Feb-19-08 20:25:00 PST) This pair of Barbie brand pink floral and snakeskin cowboy boots are girls' size 11. They're marked, "Barbie ©2006 Mattel Inc. All Rights Reserved. Buster Brown & Co., St. Louis, Missouri 63105 U.S.A. Barbie Rock Star 2531011, Made in China. All Manmade. USA 11, EUR 28, MEX 17 1/2."
This size fits feet 6 14/16" long and 2 13/16" wide, according to the kids' shoe size chart at Payless.
The toes are pink with embroidered stitching on the top, the rest of the foot is snakeskin design, and the legs are pink with cut-out flower shapes with embroidery, shiny vinyl and beads. The tabs at the top are embroidered, "Barbie" in pink on pink. The boots heel height is 1 5/8" at the back. They measure 9 3/8" in total height, with 7 5/8" from the sole to the boot top. The boots measure 5" across the top of the leg and 3 1/8" wide at the widest part of the sole.
These boots are in very good condition with clean insides and soles with no wear. They were likely worn once or twice, just long enough to get a rough scuff on one toe and two very slight scuffs on the other. The black soles say, "Non-Marking."
Unzip the 7 1/2" long zipper on the inner leg and you find a printed purple graphic of Barbie inside each boot. There is no wear on the insole. The boots smell a bit like a new doll.
