Vintage Silver BEADED HEADBAND Black Velvet Tiara Shape - eBay (item 310027939422 end time Mar-07-08 19:10:46 PST) This vintage beaded headband has silver embroidery that looks like beads until you look close. Half of the design is skinny square silver slivers strung on embroidery thread. The other half is silvery springs. Together they make an intricate flower and ribbon design on black velvet fabric.
The red tag on the black lining fabric back says, "Made in Republic of India."
The band is 2 1/2 inches wide at the central tiara design and 1 1/2 inches wide at the narrow part. The band is 24 inches long when snapped shut.
There are two small flaws in the embroidery on the left side. One is tarnish or lack of shine where it was folded and creased. The other is a bit of unraveled stitching at the bottom edge of this vintage black and silver beaded headband from India.

Vintage Navy WWII U.S. SERVICE WRITING KIT in Orig Box! - eBay (item 310027633877 end time Mar-06-08 17:15:00 PST) This U.S. Service Writing Kit is a navy blue faux leather paper folder with a silver embossed logo and "U.S. Service Writing Kit" on the front cover. Inside on the left is a pocket full of envelopes, a place to put your sweetheart's photo and a card to record your name, number, outfit, company, camp and location. On the right is a pad of stationery imprinted with a navy blue USN anchor logo.
There are 23 envelopes and the pad looks like a couple sheets are gone. The envelopes and stationery are age-darkened and have light foxing spots. We believe it's a World War II era kit.
The pasteboard box/envelope is printed on the front in red with images of three servicemen, a mailing envelope, stars and a banner that says, "U.S. Service Writing Kit." Both narrow sides say, "Keep Writing 'Em." Someone hand-wrote on one side "Navy, 50 cents" and on one end "Blue, 50 cents."
It's interesting to see how WWII servicemen were encouraged to keep in touch with the home folks with this official U.S. Navy Service Writing Kit.

Vintage MANNING-BOWMAN TEA POT Silverplate, Teapot Only - eBay (item 310027374437 end time Mar-05-08 20:56:56 PST) This vintage tea pot is marked on the bottom, "Manning-Bowman & Co." It has protruding spikes for resting on a stand with a burner, but those pieces are not here. This is the pot only.
The pot is likely silverplate. You can see copper showing on the worn bottom rim. Both the pour handle and the lid handle are wood. The large handle prefers to lay to one side or the other, rather than stand upright.
The tea pot measures 8 inches long, 6 1/2 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches high with the handle upright. It holds 4 cups.
There's a small dent in the pot edge and a more serious dent that looks like a cut in the lid edge. The finish on the outside is good, inside the pot is tarnished. Some of the black finish on the wood parts is missing.

Vintage HORNER'S TIN CANDY BOX Cinderella Graphic Lid! - eBay (item 310027362957 end time Mar-05-08 19:42:28 PST) This vintage tin candy box once contained Horner's Boy Blue Toffees. It features an embossed graphic design of Cinderella, her coach and mice on the lid.
One side of the box is marked, "Made in England by George W. Horner & Co., Ltd., Chester-Le-Street County of Durham." The two ends of the box show the registered trademark that says, "Made by Horner, The Guarantee of Goodness." The other side of the box has remnants of the paper label that listed the ingredients.
The colorful silvery design is not only painted but also embossed into the lid. Cinderella's glass slipper shows at her hem where her foot rests on a foot stool.
The candy box has age darkening and some loss of finish from rubbing the high spots on the lid, many scratches on the bottom, and darkening all around the edges of the lid. Inside the candy box there is much dark loss of finish in the bottom, less loss of finish in the lid.

Vintage Hand-Made WOODEN BIPLANE Green Model Airplane! - eBay (item 310027063280 end time Mar-04-08 18:19:25 PST) This vintage green painted wooden airplane may have been a kit. It has a hand-carved wood block fuselage and wings with professional-looking struts, metal propeller, and wheels. I see no maker's mark anywhere.
The hunter green color has black and white hand-painted accents in the form of stripes, circles and the numeral 2. The wingspan is 14 5/8" and the plane is about 9 1/2" long.
The paint is chipped here and there, particularly on the upper wing and fuselage. The propeller spins easily, the wheels turn easily, and the plane is sturdily constructed. This wooden airplane would look great on a shelf or strung up from your ceiling.

Vintage Cast Iron PARROT BOTTLE OPENER Freestanding! - eBay (item 310027058312 end time Mar-04-08 17:59:47 PST) This vintage bottle opener is a painted cast iron parrot that stands upright, ready to grab and open a bottle with his open hooked beak. The side of the stand is marked, "JW©."
The color is clearest on the blue outer tail, yellow under tail and black stand. Some red shows on the belly, black beak, white face and maybe blue or green wings. Most of the original color is obscured by heavy patina.
The open beak of this parrot bottle opener is still sharply hooked and likely opens a bottle cap quick as a wink. It might open a can just as readily.

Vintage 9-In YELLOW BELLHOP RUBBER DOLL Squeaker Toy! - eBay (item 310026805451 end time Mar-03-08 21:02:26 PST) This vintage rubber doll is a yellow bellhop boy with blonde hair, big dark eyes, pink cheeks, jaunty cap and uniform. There's no maker's mark anywhere. The squeaker has a number on it that's hard to read.
The rubber is still flexible and the squeaker still works, but not very loudly. The arms and legs move easily.
The right side of his belly is dented in a little bit and the back of the head is dented in a lot. There's something on the lower right leg and something pink on two fingers of the left hand. Otherwise he's in surprisingly good shape for such an old doll. He looks like he could be from the twenties or thirties.
