AVENGERS #4 March 1964 Capt. America Appearance XLNT!

AVENGERS #4 March 1964 Capt. America Appearance XLNT! - eBay (item 250411515139 end time Apr-26-09 19:03:18 PDT)

This pivotal issue of Avengers #4 published by Marvel in March, 1964 features the first Silver Age appearance of Captain America after a long hiatus. This is the original comic, not the Golden Record reprint. Gotta love that classic cover by Jack Kirby. Cast of characters includes Captain America, Giant Man, Thor, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner and The Wasp.

Let's talk about the condition. According to the Overstreet Comic Price Guide, a 6.0 Fine (FN) is:
"An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects." (This copy is flat as a freshly ironed hanky, has a very small crease beside Sub-Mariner, and a 1/4" scuff in the foxing near the spine on the back cover.)

"Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed." (There's a longer crease along the back cover edge that may have happened when it was bundled at the news dealer's.)

"Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases." (No wear, two small Marvel chipping bits gone, see minor creases above.)

"Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity." (None.)

"Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing." (This copy has square corners, foxing stains on both sides of front and back cover, age darkening along edges inside covers.)

"Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present." (None.)

"A minor spine roll is allowed." (None.)

"There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break." (None.)

"Staples may show minor discoloration." (None here--staples are on back of comic, shiny and pristine.)

"Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration." (No staple tears, no rust at all, a few shallow score marks at spine beside Captain America's name.)

"Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness." (These pages are exactly like that.)

"Minor interior tears at the margin may be present." (Only read once, no tears.)

"Centerfold may be loose." (Nice and tight.)

1957 SHOWCASE #6 Challengers of Unknown DC Comic Kirby!

1957 SHOWCASE #6 Challengers of Unknown DC Comic Kirby! - eBay (item 310103154380 end time Nov-28-08 19:24:00 PST)

This vintage comic is Showcase #6, First Challengers of the Unknown, published by DC in February 1957. It features Jack Kirby art and is the origin of the first silver age adventure team: pre-Fantastic Four and all the rest.

It's a very nice collectible copy with a few flaws. There's a minor wrinkle across the word "Showcase," and a small piece has been replaced above the letter "O." The spine has been reinforced invisibly inside the staples. The age darkening inside the cover isn't as bad in real life as the photo suggests.

Nice glossy cover and interiors are in excellent condition. This was only read once or twice and kept in a collection all these years by the one and only owner. Look at what they go for in this condition in the Guide!

This Feb. 1957 DC comic title says, "Showcase No. 6 Presents Challengers of the Unknown." This story is the origin of the Challengers with wonderful Jack Kirby art. The Challengers of the Unknown are considered the first Silver Age action team. We're talking pre-Fantastic Four.

We're the sole owners of this copy. The scans and photos show the great art and cover gloss of this highly-desirable comic. This comic in near mint lists for around $6,000!

SGT FURY #13 CAPTAIN AMERICA Crossover Jack Kirby XLNT!

SGT FURY #13 CAPTAIN AMERICA Crossover Jack Kirby XLNT! - eBay (item 310029731042 end time Mar-13-08 21:01:56 PDT)

Do you like Sgt. Fury and Captain America comics?

Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #13 is an unread Jack Kirby comic from Marvel that's been in our collection since the day it came out. This issue guest stars Captain America and Bucky Barnes. It's the second solo Captain America crossover outside of the Avengers. A near mint copy is listed at $500.

This copy has great cover gloss, square corners and minor foxing in the title lettering. There's very little age discoloring and hardly any stress at spine. There's a series of almost invisible manufacturing marks at Cap's belt line.

We try to grade fairly and feel this should be graded at near mint. We're listing it at a conservative starting price considering its condition--a crisp copy that's just about as fresh-looking as the day it came out!
