AVENGERS #4 March 1964 Capt. America Appearance XLNT!

AVENGERS #4 March 1964 Capt. America Appearance XLNT! - eBay (item 250411515139 end time Apr-26-09 19:03:18 PDT)

This pivotal issue of Avengers #4 published by Marvel in March, 1964 features the first Silver Age appearance of Captain America after a long hiatus. This is the original comic, not the Golden Record reprint. Gotta love that classic cover by Jack Kirby. Cast of characters includes Captain America, Giant Man, Thor, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner and The Wasp.

Let's talk about the condition. According to the Overstreet Comic Price Guide, a 6.0 Fine (FN) is:
"An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects." (This copy is flat as a freshly ironed hanky, has a very small crease beside Sub-Mariner, and a 1/4" scuff in the foxing near the spine on the back cover.)

"Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed." (There's a longer crease along the back cover edge that may have happened when it was bundled at the news dealer's.)

"Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases." (No wear, two small Marvel chipping bits gone, see minor creases above.)

"Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity." (None.)

"Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing." (This copy has square corners, foxing stains on both sides of front and back cover, age darkening along edges inside covers.)

"Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present." (None.)

"A minor spine roll is allowed." (None.)

"There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break." (None.)

"Staples may show minor discoloration." (None here--staples are on back of comic, shiny and pristine.)

"Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration." (No staple tears, no rust at all, a few shallow score marks at spine beside Captain America's name.)

"Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness." (These pages are exactly like that.)

"Minor interior tears at the margin may be present." (Only read once, no tears.)

"Centerfold may be loose." (Nice and tight.)

Soft Cover Reprint CAPTAIN BRITAIN Davis, Delano Comics

Soft Cover Reprint CAPTAIN BRITAIN Davis, Delano Comics - eBay (item 310088219550 end time Oct-04-08 19:21:58 PDT)

This vintage soft cover book Captain Britain by Alan Davis and Jamie Delano with introduction by Chris Claremont was published in 1988. Captain Britain was a Marvel comic for the UK.

From the introduction:
What you have here is a compendium of the final seventeen installment of Cap's UK run--for although a critical knockout, there just never seemed to be a sufficient audience to make his title viable. It begins with "Bad Moon Rising"--the aftermath of the classic "Jaspers Warp" story line that had run the previous year (and which remains to my mind one of the most emotionally powerful stories Alan Moore has ever written)--and concludes with "Should Auld Acquaintance"... And what do you get along the way? The formal introduction and evolution of Cap's lover, Meggan. The Crazy Gang. Vixen. Gatecrasher and her Technet. The final confrontation between Cap and his arch-foe Slaymaster. Yet another Satur-nyne. The Warpies. The RCX. King Croc and some shocking revelations about Brian's older brother, Jamie. Love and death, honour and glory, triumph and tragedy. And, of course, tea (and sympathy) at the Scott house.

Not to mention, some superb scripting by Jamie Delano--and last, but far from least, the art of Alan Davis.

So, in a very real sense, what you have here is about as good as this genre gets--top-notch stories, evocatively told, about people you care for and villains you can easily love to hate, with endings that move you. The power of simplicity. An entertainment.

Old Marvel STRANGE TALES #163 Nick Fury by Jim Steranko

Old Marvel STRANGE TALES #163 Nick Fury by Jim Steranko - eBay (item 310030930512 end time Mar-17-08 17:58:47 PDT)

Strange Tales #163 features Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Doctor Strange. Front cover art by Steranko. This is an unread copy that's been in our collection since it came out. This Marvel issue in near mint condition is listed at $60.00.

Agent of SHIELD art is by Jim Steranko. Doctor Strange art is by Dan Adkins. This issue also features fifties villain The Yellow Claw fighting Nick Fury.

This copy has great cover gloss, square corners and almost no visible stress marks at spine. The age darkening is very minor, mostly at the cover edge. There's a small impression mark (from sorting machine?) on Yellow Claw's gun.

In the first picture makes it appears there are white lines along the top edge of the front cover. We took a photo close-up that better shows the white line is very minor. You have to look close in real life to see it at all.

We try to grade fairly and feel this should be graded at near mint. We're listing it at a conservative starting price considering its condition--a really wonderful, crisp copy for your collection.
