This antique kitchen tool is a lemon press, fruit press, crusher or juicer. It doesn't say what it is. It's marked on the bottom, "Patent on Cup and Plunger Applied For." On the plunger it says, "Pat'd. Aug. 12, 1873."
The cup part stands about 4 1/2" high, so it was for straining or pressing the juice out of a small amount of fruit--enough for a drink, perhaps. Maybe for making lemonade.
The center crank turns easily to force the plunger bottom down onto the fruit and crush it. It can be disassembled into three parts for cleaning. The top crusher handle is metal, the side handle is wooden. The base and crusher bottom are very heavy. The mesh cup is very light.
