This fascinating old decorative plate is a silver-colored metal with large pieces of mother of pearl inlaid around the border. The maker's mark is stamped on the hang tab at the back. The name looks incomplete. It looks like "ALB" something, possibly "ALBI", maybe something longer but only five letters long.
The embossed central design looks at first glance like horoscope images, but they're not. The center has a face that could be Mayan. There are two profiles faces with elaborate head dresses at the center bottom. I can't make out other symbols except for one that might be a horse's head and two fanged creatures that might be fish.
The large mother of pearl inlay pieces on the border are flat except for little dips that natural occurred in the pieces of shell. Two sections are rougher textured than the rest.
The plate measures 7 1/4 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. There are two duller areas in the central embossed design and slight tarnish or dirt along the inside edge of the border.
