Vintage ROLLS ROYCE TRANSISTOR RADIO 1931 Model in Box!

Vintage ROLLS ROYCE TRANSISTOR RADIO 1931 Model in Box! - eBay (item 310039119061 end time Apr-13-08 20:27:59 PDT)

This vintage 1931 Rolls Royce Phantom II solid state AM transistor radio was made in Hong Kong. It comes complete with the original box decorated with photo graphics of the car, the Styrofoam packing pieces and the instruction sheet.

The radio takes one 9-volt battery that fits into a compartment where the rear axle should go. The driver's side spare wheel is the channel selector control. The passenger's side spare wheel is the on/off and volume control. The speaker is on the underside of the car.

I don't know when this Rolls Royce car model radio was manufactured. The finish has patina and the lights are loose and have shifted out of position. They move around as if somewhat rubbery.

When I put a battery in as a test I learned that the radio works as well as any AM radio works in my valley home. I'm limited in the stations I can pick up here.

This vintage Godinger silver card tree holds post cards or gift cards in the ten clips. The base is Victorian style decorative metal and marked, "Godinger" on the underside. The arms can be adjusted as needed to display cards of different sizes.

The card tree stands about 12 inches high on base about 3 by 4 inches. The finish is dull on much of the arms and clips. The Victorian design silver base could use polishing.

Vintage Swooping Woman STATUETTE Sensuous Silvery Metal

Vintage Swooping Woman STATUETTE Sensuous Silvery Metal - eBay (item 310038562623 end time Apr-11-08 19:54:42 PDT)

This sleek silvery metal woman statuette has no maker's mark. The sensuous swooping loop of her hair and arm remind me of some old hood ornaments. Very eye-catching.

She stands almost 13 1/2 inches high on a burgundy base with four rubber pads. There's a black dot on her right breast, a scratch on her head, front elbow, right hip, more scratches on her left hip, swooping loop and arm.

Vintage REDSTONE ARSENAL VISITOR BADGE Pinback Button!

Vintage REDSTONE ARSENAL VISITOR BADGE Pinback Button! - eBay (item 310037781194 end time Apr-09-08 18:05:00 PDT)

This old Redstone Arsenal badge is marked, "Redstone Arsenal Visitor, Gate #10, Badge #67B." The Gate and Badge numbers are hand-written in blue ballpoint pen ink. Redstone Arsenal is a U.S. Army base near Huntsville, Alabama.

For historical information on Redstone Arsenal, visit http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/redstone.htm
Here's a sample from the site:
Redstone Arsenal has served for more than 40 years as the Army's center for missile and rocket programs. In October 1997, the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal combined with the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command at St. Louis, Missouri, to form the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM). Today, Redstone Arsenal's aviation and missile experts research, develop, test, purchase, repair, or maintain the high technology weapons that American soldiers rely on to perform their duties.

The Army’ s missile and rocket program began in 1950 under Wernher von Braun and his team of German scientists. The 500-mile surface-to-surface Redstone missile was developed here. It was the first of the large U.S. ballistic missile systems to become operational.
The metal badge measures 1 3/4 inches across with an off-white and green rocket design. It has considerable foxing or aging on the front and patina on the back edges. There's a scratch on the front. The pin on the back is in excellent condition.

Old Glass Bottle MR. PICKWICK Unknown Date or Contents!

Old Glass Bottle MR. PICKWICK Unknown Date or Contents! - eBay (item 310037265359 end time Apr-07-08 19:25:22 PDT)

This Mr. Pickwick glass bottle is a Charles Dickens character, Samuel Pickwick, seen here in his hat, spectacles, overcoat and pants. There's no maker's mark anywhere on this old bottle. Embossed on the bottom front is "Mr. Pickwick." The glass has minor imperfections typically found in old glass: little wrinkles, tiny bubbles, mold lines.

For more information on Samuel Pickwick and how he came to be, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pickwick_Papers

The vintage bottle probably had a cork like this in it originally as there's no evidence of screw threads for a lid. I have no idea what the bottle once held or when it was made.

It's in excellent condition, no cracks, no chips. There's a minor haziness inside which a good cleaning would likely remove.

Vintage Embossed METAL DECORATIVE PLATE Pearl Inlay!

Vintage Embossed METAL DECORATIVE PLATE Pearl Inlay! - eBay (item 310036537755 end time Apr-05-08 18:05:00 PDT)

This fascinating old decorative plate is a silver-colored metal with large pieces of mother of pearl inlaid around the border. The maker's mark is stamped on the hang tab at the back. The name looks incomplete. It looks like "ALB" something, possibly "ALBI", maybe something longer but only five letters long.

The embossed central design looks at first glance like horoscope images, but they're not. The center has a face that could be Mayan. There are two profiles faces with elaborate head dresses at the center bottom. I can't make out other symbols except for one that might be a horse's head and two fanged creatures that might be fish.

The large mother of pearl inlay pieces on the border are flat except for little dips that natural occurred in the pieces of shell. Two sections are rougher textured than the rest.

The plate measures 7 1/4 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. There are two duller areas in the central embossed design and slight tarnish or dirt along the inside edge of the border.

Does this weird and gorgeous metal and mother of pearl decorative plate make you smile? Click the link under the picture to see this decorative plate or click the link above the picture to see all decorative plates currently on eBay.

Vintage Wood DE LUXE SET ICE MALLET AND BAG, Orig Box!

Vintage Wood DE LUXE SET ICE MALLET AND BAG, Orig Box! - eBay (item 310034713545 end time Mar-30-08 17:30:44 PDT)

This vintage kitchen ice mallet and bag in original box come from the days when the ice man delivered a block of ice for your ice box. The box is marked, "De Luxe Set Ice Mallet and Bag, Hand Made Hard wood, A Norteyre Product."

The instruction sheet says, in part:
In order to obtain a 'frost' on a glass it is imperative that the ice be DRY. The best method of obtaining dry ice is to crack it all at once and as quickly as possible in a bag which will crush it rapidly and efficiently and then use the ice immediately before it becomes sloppy.

The Norteyre de Luxe Ice Mallet & Bag was designed especially for this purpose and will crack ice quickly and efficiently in large or small quantity, better than any other device as time and use have proven.
It includes a "Kentucky Mint Julep Recipe of a famous Kentucky Colonel."

The mallet is smooth and free of dents as if never used or impervious to damage, but the bag has minor stains which suggest the set has been used. There's some loss of finish on the mallet. It measures 13 1/2 by 5 by 1 3/4 inches. The canvas bag measures 14 by 7 1/4 inches and smells faintly like a boat sail or tent.

The pasteboard box has damage, one end of the lid is completely separated. The instruction sheet is stained.
