Old Glass Bottle MR. PICKWICK Unknown Date or Contents! - eBay (item 310037265359 end time Apr-07-08 19:25:22 PDT) This Mr. Pickwick glass bottle is a Charles Dickens character, Samuel Pickwick, seen here in his hat, spectacles, overcoat and pants. There's no maker's mark anywhere on this old bottle. Embossed on the bottom front is "Mr. Pickwick." The glass has minor imperfections typically found in old glass: little wrinkles, tiny bubbles, mold lines.
For more information on Samuel Pickwick and how he came to be, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pickwick_Papers
The vintage bottle probably had a cork like this in it originally as there's no evidence of screw threads for a lid. I have no idea what the bottle once held or when it was made.
It's in excellent condition, no cracks, no chips. There's a minor haziness inside which a good cleaning would likely remove.

Vintage Embossed METAL DECORATIVE PLATE Pearl Inlay! - eBay (item 310036537755 end time Apr-05-08 18:05:00 PDT)This fascinating old decorative plate is a silver-colored metal with large pieces of mother of pearl inlaid around the border. The maker's mark is stamped on the hang tab at the back. The name looks incomplete. It looks like "ALB" something, possibly "ALBI", maybe something longer but only five letters long.
The embossed central design looks at first glance like horoscope images, but they're not. The center has a face that could be Mayan. There are two profiles faces with elaborate head dresses at the center bottom. I can't make out other symbols except for one that might be a horse's head and two fanged creatures that might be fish.
The large mother of pearl inlay pieces on the border are flat except for little dips that natural occurred in the pieces of shell. Two sections are rougher textured than the rest.
The plate measures 7 1/4 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. There are two duller areas in the central embossed design and slight tarnish or dirt along the inside edge of the border.
Does this weird and gorgeous metal and mother of pearl decorative plate make you smile? Click the link under the picture to see this decorative plate or click the link above the picture to see all decorative plates currently on eBay.
Vintage Wood DE LUXE SET ICE MALLET AND BAG, Orig Box! - eBay (item 310034713545 end time Mar-30-08 17:30:44 PDT) This vintage kitchen ice mallet and bag in original box come from the days when the ice man delivered a block of ice for your ice box. The box is marked, "De Luxe Set Ice Mallet and Bag, Hand Made Hard wood, A Norteyre Product."
The instruction sheet says, in part:
In order to obtain a 'frost' on a glass it is imperative that the ice be DRY. The best method of obtaining dry ice is to crack it all at once and as quickly as possible in a bag which will crush it rapidly and efficiently and then use the ice immediately before it becomes sloppy.
The Norteyre de Luxe Ice Mallet & Bag was designed especially for this purpose and will crack ice quickly and efficiently in large or small quantity, better than any other device as time and use have proven.
It includes a "Kentucky Mint Julep Recipe of a famous Kentucky Colonel."
The mallet is smooth and free of dents as if never used or impervious to damage, but the bag has minor stains which suggest the set has been used. There's some loss of finish on the mallet. It measures 13 1/2 by 5 by 1 3/4 inches. The canvas bag measures 14 by 7 1/4 inches and smells faintly like a boat sail or tent.
The pasteboard box has damage, one end of the lid is completely separated. The instruction sheet is stained.

It outlines the development of early adventure strips and pulp magazines and shows how those influences led to the creation of the first comic book heroes. It includes sections on Superman, Batman, Captain America, Human Torch, Submariner and The Justice Society.
The photos show Submariner by Bill Everett, Batman by Bob Kane, Captain America by Jack Kirby, and The Justice Society of America by Joe Kubert. The Buck Rogers art was a painting by Frank R. Paul instead of the comic artist Dick Calkins.
The softcover book measures 10 1/2 inches by 14 inches with 84 black and white pages. The front and back full-color covers are an amazing montage of early adventure characters drawn by Jim Steranko.
It comes with the original mailing envelope which is beautifully designed by Steranko.

Single Prop Model MUSICAL TIN AIRPLANE Fly Me to Moon! - eBay (item 310033559539 end time Mar-26-08 18:42:15 PDT) This tin model airplane has a primitive sculptural look with a streaky coppery finish. The label on the tail fin is marked, "Plays Fly Me To The Moon, Made in Hong Kong." You turn the propeller to wind up the music works, then the propeller revolves as the music plays.
It's a single propeller model with a single wing supported by upper struts. The three wheels do not turn. It would look great hung from a ceiling or parked on a shelf.
The plane measures 12 inches long by 11 1/2 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches high. The music plays correctly. There are a few bends in the tail fins.

Calla HOUSE OF HATTEN Dancer, 12 Days Christmas Piece! - eBay (item 310033550827 end time Mar-26-08 18:04:42 PDT) This vintage House of Hatten ornament looks like an ethnic fairy princess ballet dancer. She's marked on the bottom, "House of Hatten ©1989" and came from a retired 12 Days of Christmas set designed by D Calla.
She's made of something very light weight that looks like wood. Her outfit is a long pointed hat with pearls on wires, a fancy long black vest and belled sleeves, long red skirt and black shoes with ethnic design bands. Her face is fascinating, her hands are large and expressive. Her long black hair is in a loose braid. Is she a medieval or Russian girl?
There's a small loop on her hat to hang her as ornament. She's in excellent condition, no chips or damage anywhere, no repairs. The ornament measures 9 inches tall.

Vintage GRANGE RIBBON Patrons/Husbandry, Curllsville PA - eBay (item 310033546458 end time Mar-26-08 17:44:17 PDT) This old Grange ribbon has lots of gingerbread. The top bar says, "Community Grange, No. 1778." The next bar says, "Member." The round medallion says, "Patrons of Husbandry" with a logo of farming symbols and a handshake. The ribbon itself has silver lettering that says, "P. of H., Curllsville, PA."
This Grange Ribbon is red white and blue ribbon on the front with gold-colored metal around the bars and medallion, and tarnished gold edging and fringe. The back is black ribbon that says, "P. of H., Curllsville, PA."
The back of the medallion is marked, "Made By Fuller Regalia & Costume Co., Trade Mark, Dorward, Worcester, MASS" and there's a union label.
The red color has bled into the white and the gold ribbon edging and fringe is tarnished. The medallion shows minor foxing spots. It measures 8 1/2 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. The pin at the back is in great condition.

Vintage Round EMBROIDERED TRINKET BOX Oriental Golfer! - eBay (item 310033266142 end time Mar-25-08 18:51:56 PDT) This vintage embroidered trinket box is small and round with an oriental design on the lid, black satin sides and red brocade lining inside. It looks like there's a golf bag behind the man. I see no maker's mark.
The embroidery is somewhat soiled and still good except for the gold threads which are coming loose. The lid fabric is threadbare around the edge.
The bottom is plain white paper with a penciled "60.00" written on it. The red brocade lining is in good condition with two minor stains. The lid fits snugly.
It measures 3 1/4 inches across and almost 2 inches high. The bottom is 1 inch deep.

Vintage CHALKWARE PIGGY BANK Pink Chalk Pig Still Bank! - eBay (item 310033247431 end time Mar-25-08 17:36:30 PDT) This vintage chalkware piggy bank likely came from a carnival long ago. There's no maker's mark. It's a cute fat smiling girl pig with long eyelashes and a bow on its neck. I think it used to be Pepto Bismol pink, judging from the bright color underneath. It's faded to pale pink everywhere else.
The finish has marks and numerous chips. The right eyelashes are pretty much gone.
She's 8 inches long and about 5 inches high. There's no way to get your coins back out except to slide a butter knife into the slot and shake and jiggle them out. It's either that or smash her. Yikes!

Berni Wrightson was just beginning to receive recognition as an artist at that time.

There's much finish loss on the outside. Inside is still mostly shiny. In the bottom crease opposite the handle is a bit of rust and there are two minor dents in the side wall. The handle is solidly attached.

1990 25th Ed STEDMAN'S MEDICAL DICTIONARY Illus. HC! - eBay (item 310031821018 end time Mar-20-08 18:31:42 PDT)Stedman's Medical Dictionary must be good as it's been published over and over again since 1911. This big heavy green hardcover is the 25th Edition, Illustrated, published in 1990.
The front and back endpapers explain the setup of the book. Pages near front and back have creases where they got rumpled with the opening and closing of such a weighty book. There's slight crunching of upper pages at the front of the book and slight wear on the covers, otherwise it's bright and clean.

They stand 12 1/2 inches high, about 4 1/2 inches across the base and weigh over a pound apiece. Each stick unscrews into four pieces: base, stick, bowl and cup. There are some irregularities in the finish, especially on the bases. They don't appear to be absolutely straight.

TWO CROCHET COVERLETS Twin Striped Hand Made Afghans! - eBay (item 310030948414 end time Mar-17-08 19:05:20 PDT) These two twin hand-made crochet coverlets have coral, blue and yellow stripes of various widths with narrow rust accents. They're 100% polyester yarn made by my friend who crochets about 60 mph. She usually makes coverlets from whatever yarn colors she has on hand. This blanket, large afghan or throw or lap robe is shown on a single bed.
The all-over stripe design has a dainty picot edging in blue. The colors are more true in the first two pictures. The stitching is solid for maximum warmth and no catching of fingers and toes in crochet holes. They are sweet, homey items to warm up your decor and snuggle up in for a nap or TV watching.
These coverlets are made of polyester worsted-weight yarn and are machine washable. You can feel extra warm knowing half of the proceeds from this auction goes to Doctors Without Borders.

This copy has great cover gloss, square corners and almost no visible stress marks at spine. The age darkening is very minor, mostly at the cover edge. There's a small impression mark (from sorting machine?) on Yellow Claw's gun.
In the first picture makes it appears there are white lines along the top edge of the front cover. We took a photo close-up that better shows the white line is very minor. You have to look close in real life to see it at all.

Vintage COMIC WEEKLY CLUB Tin Litho Wood Spinner Clown! - eBay (item 310030918317 end time Mar-17-08 17:06:18 PDT) This vintage Comic Weekly Club tin litho spinner with a clown probably came out around 1948 or '49. The Comic Weekly Club was a short-lived feature that ran along with the regular Sunday newspaper comics and had puzzles and games that used the images of many of the King Features characters. The clown was just a logo image.
The tin measures 1 1/2 inches across with a wooden spinner handle and point about 1 inch long. It spins great! The underside has two tiny union logos all over it. What looks like a tiny bit of rust at the top of the clown's forehead was dirt that's gone now.
